Mogadishu (HOL) – Armed bandits attacked a Somali-owned shop in the KwaZulu-Natal province of South Africa, killing one Somali national and injuring another, the Somali business community reported on Sunday.
The deceased, Sadaq Ahmed Hassan, known as Sadaq British, was killed during the robbery, while Mohamed Dahir sustained injuries. The incident occurred in the suburbs of Pietermaritzburg, where the two were working.
South African police arrived at the scene after the perpetrators fled but have yet to make any arrests.
Sadaq British, a long-time resident of South Africa, was a well-known figure within the Somali community in KwaZulu-Natal province.
The attack highlights a growing trend of violence against Somali businesspeople in South Africa, where incidents of killings, injuries, and robberies targeting the community have sharply increased in recent years.
