They argue that uniform rates will foster fair competition, stimulate demand, and support business growth. This call for action was made during a recent meeting with the Parliamentary Committee on Finance. Currently, DTS costs vary significantly across the EAC, creating competitiveness challenges. In Uganda, DTS fees are Shs110 for wines and spirits and Shs36 for beer. But the State says her own affidavit in her bail application proves that she returned voluntarily. The State says if the SCA finds that her return was unlawful, it should order that she be released from custody but continue to face criminal charges. Last week, the Central Bank of Sudan (CBoS) announced the issuance of a new banknote of SDG1,000 as part of its efforts to improve the security standards for banknotes and achieve economic stability, after many banks in Sudan have been plundered. According to economist El Hadi Habbani the measure is counterproductive. In a statement issued Friday, the Ministry commended Somaliland’s National Electoral Commission (NEC) for ensuring a free and fair vote. “The process reflects the maturity of Somaliland’s governance and democratic system,” Ethiopia’s statement read, congratulating the people of Somaliland for their commitment to democratic principles. More than 1 million registered voters cast their ballots at approximately 2,000 polling stations across Somaliland on Wednesday. Results are expected by November 21, said NEC Chairman Muse Hassan Yusuf. “This is a testament to the strength of Somaliland’s democratic institutions,” Yusuf said, adding that minor technical issues reported during voting were promptly resolved.
