SEVEN family members of Petauke accused of murdering their relative on witchcraft suspicions have been acquitted by the Chipata High Court because the evidence from witnesses could not corroborate.
High Court Judge Laston Mwanabo set the seven family members, who were accused of stoning their relative to death, free.
This is a matter in which seven family members were accused of murdering Golid Banda in August in Nyimba.
During trial, one of the deceased’s sons, Vincent Banda, 30, told the court that they had gone to attend burial for his aunt in the village when his father was killed.
He said after burial, as he was heading to the village from the graveyard, his grandfather advised him to be close to his father because some people wanted to kill him.
