Jonathan Turley, the United States of America (US) Department of State’s Deputy Director of the Office to Monitor and Combat Trafficking in Persons, visited Brunei on January 8-10 to strengthen bilateral cooperation on combating human trafficking.
According to a press release from the US Embassy in Brunei, Turley’s visit coincided with National Human Trafficking Prevention Month in the United States, a designation made by Presidential Proclamation to raise awareness about human trafficking and to educate the public about how to identify and prevent this crime.
During his visit, Turley met with government officials, members of the diplomatic community, and other stakeholders to discuss strategies for combating human trafficking, including enhancing law enforcement efforts, improving victim identification and protection, and strengthening prevention measures.
The embassy said that the US remains committed to working with Brunei and other partners to address this critical global challenge.
