The Auditor General, David Dennis and KPMG partners Steve Nutley and Anare Manulevu last week updated Prime Minister Jeremiah Manele on the status of the audits of the National Hosting Authority (NHA) which hosted the Pacific Games in 2023.
The financial statement audits cover the calendar periods 2019 through to 2024 and the special procurement audit examines the procurement practices of NHA.
OAG and KPMG provided an overview of progress to date and likely timelines for delivery of audit reports.
“The NHA financial statement audits for calendar periods 2019 to 2021 and the special procurement audit are expected to be reported in 1st quarter 2025 subject to timely receipt of required documentation”, the Auditor General said.
“Challenges in NHA providing requested documentation continues to delay the timely completion of these audits.
“To date proper documentation to support the validity of actions and transactions for certain major procurements had not yet been provided and remains a concern. Updates to the likely completion dates for the remaining financial audits covering calendar periods 2022-2024 will be shared at a later date.”
OAG and KPMG acknowledged the efforts by NHA and SIG in their support to date.
The OAG is one of the key accountability institutions established under the Solomon Islands Constitution which requires the Auditor General to audit and report on the public accounts of Solomon Islands, including all Ministries, offices, special funds, courts and authorities of the Government, and of the government of Honiara City and of all provincial governments.
KPMG is contracted to provide to the OAG financial statement audit services for calendar periods 2020 to 2024 together with the special procurement audit.
Approximately 5,000 elite sporting individuals from 24 countries and territories across Oceania convened in Honiara between 19th November and 2nd December 2023, to compete in the XVII edition of the Pacific Games.
It’s the government close to SBD$2billion to stage with Games with funding support from the donor partners.
