MUCURAPO West Secondary joined east zone winners Hillview College on six points when they got a 3-2 victory over Presentation College Chaguanas at the latter team’s compound in Chaguanas in Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) First Citizens Boys’ “Big 5” championship playoff action on November 5.
The win was the second in three matches for Mucurapo in the Big 5 tournament, which will see the top three teams gaining promotion for the 2026 SSFL premier division season. After defeating south championship winners Palo Seco Secondary 3-1 on October 29, the north championship winners Mucurapo were humbled on home territory on November 1 when table-toppers Hillview cruised to a 3-0 win.
In Chaguanas, though, Mucurapo found back their footing as Nazim Skinner opened the scoring in the fifth minute before Hassan Edghill responded for the central championship division winners Presentation in the seventh minute. The two teams traded goals again as Amenhotep Harper scored for Mucurapo before Aaron Bynoe made it 2-2 as he got Presentation’s second goal.
In the dying moments of the clash, Man of the Match Caleb Jacob sent Presentation crashing to their second loss in as many matches when he snatched the game-winner in the third minute of stoppage time to give Mucurapo precious points on the road. For Jacob, it was his third goal in the tournament as he scored a brace in his team’s victory over Palo Seco.
The other match between Palo Seco and Tobago champions Speyside Secondary was postponed. Thus far, Speyside are yet to feature in the tournament but they will have catching up to do when they touch the field, as both Hillview and Mucurapo have made early statements. Hillview head the Big 5 on goal difference as they smacked Presentation 7-0, to go along with the victory over Mucurapo.
The Big 5 is scheduled to continue on November 8 when Speyside host Mucurapo and Hillview welcome Palo Seco.
