AMMAN — His Majesty King Abdullah, during a meeting on Thursday with United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres, warned of the catastrophic humanitarian situation in Gaza, which demands urgent international action to prevent further exacerbation. AMMAN — Women’s economic empowerment at the local level in Jordan requires a comprehensive approach that integrates empowerment with political and economic reforms, public sector modernisation and social protection, a local study revealed on Tuesday. The findings were announced during the launch of “A Study on Women’s Economic Identity in the Governorates” by the Inter-Ministerial Committee for Women’s Empowerment (IMCWE) in cooperation with USAID’s Makanati Women’s Economic Empowerment and Leadership Activity. AMMAN — Jordan Tourism Board (JTB) Managing Director Abdul Razzaq Arabiyat announced on Tuesday that the JTB is shifting focus from traditional tourism to establishing ecotourism alliances, aimed at creating a new outlook on curating tourism experiences. During the weekly press conference at the Ministry of Government Communication, Arabiyat highlighted the challenges that the Jordanian tourism market is currently facing, particularly due to the Israeli aggression on Gaza, which led to a significant decrease in the number of tourists, especially from the US and Europe. AMMAN — The Court of Cassation has upheld a June 2023 State Security Court (SSC) ruling, sentencing a man to 18 months in prison after convicting him of possessing illegal narcotics in Amman. The court declared the defendant guilty of possessing a small quantity of Crystal meth near Queen Alia International Airport. The SSC handed the defendant 18 months in prison and ordered him to pay JD1,000 in fines. Court documents said the Anti-Narcotics Department (AND) learnt the defendant was in possession of illegal narcotics and placed him under surveillance.  On the day of his arrest, the court maintained, an AND patrol followed the defendant and pulled him over for inspection. “The AND agents found a small quantity of Crystal meth,” court documents said.
