Edgard Leblanc Fils, the council’s former president, stated on Sunday that Macron’s comments insulted an entire nation “facing difficult times.”
The remarks were made by Macron during the G20 meeting in Brazil earlier this month, where he criticized the council for removing Prime Minister Garry Conille after just six months.
“They’re total morons,” Macron said, referring to the council. “They should never have dismissed him.”
Following Conille’s removal, the council appointed Alix Didier Fils-Aimé as the new prime minister.
Leblanc’s statement also noted that Macron “did not hesitate to interfere in Haitian affairs, expressing support for Prime Minister Conille and calling him remarkable.”
Meanwhile the new prime minister seems to be off to a good start, with Kenyan news sources reporting that his police officers took part in a massive attack on gang leader Jimmy Barbecue and his men, torching his base, and with the gang leader fleeing only narrowly escaping arrest.
Jimmy ‘Barbecue’ Cherizer is a prominent gang leader who appears to enjoy media attention. He is reputedly a former police officer.
The raid was apparently prepared for using drone surveillance of the gang-leader’s lair, according to reports in Kenya’s The Nation, and succeeded in flattening Barbecue’s home and taking possession of a bulldozer that had been used to defend his home. Several other vehicles were also confiscated in the raid, which was perhaps an early indication that the latest regime in Haiti intends to take a more aggressive approach.
