Captain Shian Brathwaite smashed an unbeaten century while all rounder Shaquille Cumberbatch scored 87 in a 136-run 5th wicket partnership as Empire scored 267 for 6 declared against the struggling University of West Indies (UWI) cricket team at Bank Hall on the second day of Series 7 of the Barbados Cricket Association Elite 3-Day Competition on Saturday.
Coming into the day on 50 not out Brathwaite batted a total of 218 balls while striking 10 threes and 4 fours as he chose to declare the teams’ innings after reaching triple figures at 102 not out. Brathwaite was well supported by Cumberbatch who began the day on 21 not out, he faced 143 balls and struck 13 threes and 3 fours before falling in the first over after the lunch break.
UWI who are currently facing demotion at the bottom of the table and desperately need to accumulate points are 77 for 2 and trail Empire by 190 runs heading into the final days play.

Left arm spinner Jerome Jones took 6 wickets for 29 runs in 14 overs as Wildey have the clear advantage in the top of the table clash against Wanderers after two days of play.
Coming into the day on 234 for 4, Wildey declared their innings at exactly 250 for 7 to secure two batting points. Carlos Maynard scored 64 while Jones added 60.
For Wanderers, fast bowler Jourdan Niles picked up 5 wickets for 57 runs in 16 overs.
In their second innings, Wildey batted 17 overs as they ended the day at 71 for 3 with an overall lead of 209 runs.

Pickwick resumed the day on 125 for 2 with unbeaten batters Micaiah Simmons (56) and Kyle Hope (14) looking to build their team’s total. After sharing a 129-run partnership, Simmons fell 12 runs short of a century when he was out caught on 88 after facing 188 balls, he struck 8 fours and 3 sixes. Hope lost his wicket for 68 after batting 156 balls with 5 fours.
Lower order batters Preston Clarke (38 not out) and Jatario Prescod (34) were able to add an important 53-run partnership for the 7th wicket before Pickwick declared at 307 for 7 in 91 overs.
Yorkshire are currently on 147 for 6, led by Zidane Harewood who made a quick fire 91 in 71 balls with 13 fours and 2 sixes.
