Mogadishu (HOL) — Somali government on Saturday urged community leaders to take decisive action to end a series of deadly inter-clan conflicts that have erupted in several parts of the country.
In a statement, the Ministry of Interior called on local authorities, traditional elders, religious scholars, women, and intellectuals to unite to restore stability and foster lasting peace.
“We deeply regret the ongoing conflicts and actions that contradict Islamic law and Somali culture. The Ministry calls for an immediate end to violence, targeting, and displacement of civilians, which have led to significant loss of life, injuries, and forced displacements,” the statement read.
The call for action follows recent clashes in Galmudug, Hirshabelle, and the Sanaag region. Furthermore, six Somali National Army soldiers and their driver were ambushed and killed in the El-Baraf district of Middle Shabelle last week. The soldiers, all members of the Hawadle clan, were on leave and traveling to their families in the Hiiraan region when they were brutally targeted in a revenge attack. Local residents reported the militia shot the victims in the head.
